Meditation

Meditation

Meditation has been used for thousands of years to help people find a sense of clarity, inner peace, increased focus, and well-being. Research has repeatedly shown that the power of mindful meditation can be harnessed to improve outcomes for a range of mental health disorders, as well as ease physical symptoms of psychological distress. Mindful practice engages the self-healing powers of the brain and creates new neural pathways that encourage psychological wellness, a sense of peace, and freedom from destructive patterns of thought and behavior. Simultaneously, your body relaxes and reinvigorates, releasing physical tension and creating a feeling of somatic tranquility. At Bridges to Recovery, we integrate meditation in our treatment program to allow our clients to experience the emotional, physical, and spiritual benefits of mindfulness in a safe, supportive environment.

Meditation at Bridges to Recovery

Through breathing and visualization techniques, the experienced therapists at Bridges to Recovery guide you toward awareness of your thoughts, feelings, and physical sensations in the present moment. With a maximum of six clients at a time, our meditation group is an intimate space where each member can receive the support they need to practice at a pace that is right for them. During treatment, you will have the opportunity to experience meditation weekly. As you learn to become mindful in the here and now, you gain a sense of harmony and wholeness within yourself and with the world around you. You develop a heightened ability to tolerate stressors, handle negative emotions, and connect with your body as you employ self-soothing techniques to process your psychological experiences. The skills you develop through meditative practice can be profoundly valuable for your confidence and ability to draw on your inner resources to heal.
