Mood Disorders We Treat

At Bridges to Recovery, we offer residential treatment for the following types of mood disorders, and related conditions. Select the disorder of interest below to learn more about our approach to treatment:

Major Depression: The most common form of depression, defined as having a series depressive episodes or depressed mood that causes a disruption in life function occurring over a two-week period.

Depression: Characterized as a low or gloomy mood that persists most days and lasts most of the day, for a period of two or more years.

Bipolar Disorder: A chronic condition that has symptoms that include an alternating pattern of emotional highs/mania and emotional lows/depression.

Complicated Grief: An excessive, persistent grief that is more intense and lasts much longer than what is normally expected when a loved one is lost.

Mood Disorder Medication

Medication often plays a major role in the treatment of mood disorders and can at times be a life-saving intervention. The residential setting at Bridges to Recovery means that our on-site psychiatrists are able to administer and monitor medication with a level of attention that is simply not possible on an outpatient basis.

Progress and any side-effects can be observed and reported daily, allowing a high level of responsiveness. We are committed to finding effective, well-tolerated medication protocols that best address your individual needs.

Individual Therapy

Empirical research shows that psychotherapy is an integral part of successful mood disorder treatment. Even when symptoms are greatly alleviated through medication, psychotherapy improves outcomes–and for some clients, therapy alone can be effective.

Through a combination of intensive psychodynamic and Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), our doctorate-level psychotherapists support you in investigating the underlying issues and experiences that may contribute to mood disorders, and help you establish new coping mechanisms in response to stressors. Our goal is to guide you toward improved self-image, relief from suffering, and a greater ability to live an authentic life.

Group Therapy

Our innovative range of group therapies offers safe, respectful social environments for gaining insight, perspective, and support in the company of peers. Knowing that you are not alone and that others share you struggles can be comforting as you move toward healing.

Holistic Care

Physical needs can seem insignificant in the face of profound emotional suffering. Self-care, including nutrition and exercise, can be one of the first aspects of life to fall by the wayside when a mood disorder presents itself, and in the darkest stages it can feel like an insurmountable burden. However, physical and mental health have a close, symbiotic relationship, and people suffering from mood disorders often see significant benefits from maintaining a healthy lifestyle.

At Bridges to Recovery, you are immersed in a total therapeutic environment that attends to physical needs as an integral part of healing. Private chefs prepare healthy meals daily and our physical fitness program allows you to reconnect with your body, experience the benefits of physical activity, and focus energy in a healthy way. We also offer a range of holistic and creative therapies such as yoga, massage, and art therapy to integrate emotional, physical, and spiritual wellness.
