PTSD Treatment Centers in Los Angeles, California

As one of the leading PTSD treatment centers in California, we at Bridges to Recovery have been blessed to learn as much from our clients as they have learned from us. Our professional, compassionate, and well-respected team brings all aspects of their education in the trauma field to the table, and that includes the first-hand lessons we have been fortunate enough to receive from clients overcoming their own PTSD.

It is in helping people through their trauma firsthand that we have been given an education unavailable in a classroom or book. And it is with this better understanding of the living, breathing, hard-hitting reality of PTSD that we are able to work with you to design an individualized treatment plan that will set you free from your past. We won’t pretend to understand your trauma as well as you do – that is something that you alone know all too well. But we promise to do our best to use our educational and experiential understanding of the mind and how it processes traumatic events to help you keep the past in the past.

What happened to you will never be erased, but it doesn’t deserve a front seat in your life anymore. And that’s where Bridges to Recovery PTSD treatment centers come into the equation. It is our primary mission that you leave our facility a different, liberated version of the person who arrived, ready to see what wonders life has to offer without being held captive by fear, anger, paranoia, anxiety, nightmares, or intense depression.

What is PTSD? – Helping Others Better Understand What You’re Living With

Among our favorite understandings of PTSD is this explanation from WebMD: “PTSD is a lasting consequence of traumatic ordeals that cause intense fear, helplessness, or horror, such as a sexual or physical assault, the unexpected death of a loved one, an accident, war, or natural disaster.” Or, as one of our former clients eloquently explained her own take on her PTSD, “It is the unpredictable, follow-up storms that come after the major storm has passed. It is knowing I always have to carry a metaphorical umbrella, on even the happiest, sunniest days, because in my own mind, there is always a storm just about the break. But I don’t get a weather forecast to know when the skies are going to open up. They just do.”

PTSD can be thought of as a mental wound that is having a hard time healing because the cut was simply too deep. And unlike a physical wound, others aren’t always able to understand what you’re going through because your mental scars are invisible to the eye. At Bridges to Recovery, we recognize PTSD symptoms that you might not even realize yourself. And we will combine that perceptivity with insight, compassion, and importantly, with what we learn from you, to design a unique treatment plan that helps you control your PTSD symptoms and live the life you deserve.

The Best Teachers are Good Listeners

We pride ourselves on being good teachers and good listeners, and believe it is the “good listener” aspect of therapy that can make or break a recovery. Our many years of experience help us to listen and hear what you’re saying not as a friend or family member might, but with a “therapist’s ear.” While some PTSD symptoms are more apparent than others, we have a keen ability to pick up on the small stuff, which helps us build a PTSD treatment plan that can truly, simply, “work.”

At Bridges to Recovery PTSD treatment centers, we will focus on more than the obvious symptoms of PTSD because we understand that PTSD is affecting your life in countless ways that you may not even be aware of. We will help you to learn better stress management and relaxation techniques, as well as improving lifestyle habits, which can include:

  • Developing an exercise regimen you enjoy
  • Constructing a sleep plan that ensures you get enough sleep, and that the sleep you get is restful and rejuvenating
  • Making any necessary changes to your diet and nutrition
  • Establishing a schedule to spend time doing the things you enjoy with family and friends

While mental health and physical health are different, there are many ways in which they overlap. You are one complete person – a combination of your mental, emotional, physical, and spiritual selves. Emotional issues can affect you physically, physical issues can affect you mentally, mental issues can affect you emotionally, and so forth. At Bridges to Recovery, we recognize and honor the distinct differences between these elements of self while also recognizing and honoring the ways in which they are intrinsically interconnected. Only when all aspects of yourself are in balance can you truly be your best self. And helping you become, and maintain, your best self is a paramount objective of your recovery at our PTSD treatment centers.

What will my PTSD treatment plan look like?

There are many treatment options for PTSD available, and the types of therapy used can vary quite a bit between different PTSD treatment centers. While your treatment plan will be customized to meet your unique needs, the PTSD treatment options we focus on at Bridges to Recovery include:

  • EMDR therapy for PTSD (eye movement desensitization and reprocessing)
  • Cognitive behavioral therapy for PTSD (CBT)
  • Dialectical behavior therapy for PTSD (DBT)
  • Somatic experience therapy for PTSD (SE)

We feel it is important to highlight that we do NOT use exposure therapy for PTSD. This is a highly controversial treatment option that does work for some people, but causes undue stress and aggravation of symptoms in others. While we are always open to considering new options in what elements make up the best therapy for PTSD sufferers, we are committed to building plans that accomplish goals without unnecessary risk.

PTSD rehab is a serious endeavor, and we respect that you have overcome a great deal of fears and uncertainties in deciding to engage in residential treatment. While there will always be elements of discomfort in any therapy regimen as we examine what you’ve experienced to help you move past it, we feel that the risks of further aggravating trauma that come with exposure therapy simply aren’t worth it. We believe in the Hippocratic Oath to “first, do no harm,” and will never willingly engage in therapeutic recommendations that don’t have a much stronger likelihood of helping than hurting you.
