Anxiety Disorders

Anxiety disorders are a family of illnesses in which fear becomes a disruptive driving force in your live, interfering with daily functioning, and robbing you of your sense of peace and security. There is a wide spectrum of anxiety disorders, including generalized anxiety disorder (GAD), social anxiety disorder, phobias, panic disorder, and obsessive-compulsive disorder (OCD). Causes range from the unknown to specific events so significant that they imprint themselves on your everyday experiences. The devastating effects of anxiety disorders can color your entire outlook on the world, impact your social and professional functioning, and affect your ability to navigate through life. The emotional symptoms of anxiety are often paired with physical manifestations that range from mild discomfort to paralyzing panic attacks. Anxiety disorders can be particularly frustrating if you realize that some of your fears and responses may be irrational, but remain immobilized despite this logical understanding. For the friends and family of people with anxiety disorders, it can be heartbreaking to watch their loved one suffer.

Anxiety Treatment at Bridges to Recovery

At Bridges to Recovery we offer personalized treatment plans to work through anxiety and restore daily functioning. Our experienced, compassionate clinicians work with you to understand the nature and source of your anxiety, and develop strategies to improve responses to triggers and promote a sense of safety and well-being. The serene environment of our facilities provides a calming atmosphere where you can address your disorder without the stresses and potential triggers of everyday life.

Individual Psychotherapy

Individual psychotherapy forms the primary basis for anxiety disorder treatment at Bridges to Recovery. Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) is one of the most effective modalities available for anxiety disorders and is considered a first-line treatment. By focusing on behavior modification, CBT interrupts negative thought patterns and refocuses energy on healthy coping mechanisms in an empowering way. CBT is coupled with psychodynamic therapy, which helps you delve deeply into your life to explore the experiential causes and effects of your anxiety and work towards resolution and a feeling of peace.

Group Therapy

Many clients with anxiety, particularly social anxiety, can find the prospect of group therapy intimidating. In fact, some people are reluctant to participate in residential treatment specifically due to the social environment. Because we limit our program to a maximum of six clients per facility, we provide an intimate, welcoming space where you can feel comfortable, safe, and free from judgment. The therapeutic modalities and peer support offered through group therapy can help you develop skills to handle your anxiety in productive ways and successfully move forward without immobilizing fear and suffering.


Anti-anxiety medication may be used for both acute and chronic symptoms. Our highly trained psychiatrists work with you to find the most appropriate medication protocol for you. We use medication judiciously to provide support and relief within the larger therapeutic framework.

Holistic Care

As a person who struggles with anxiety, you likely have an acute understanding of the deep connection between emotional and physical states. Anxiety can be a profoundly physical experience, resulting in shortness of breath, a racing heart, sweating, light-headedness, muscle pain, or nausea, among other symptoms. At Bridges to Recovery, we offer holistic therapies such as massage and acupuncture to reconnect you with your body and impart a sense of calm and control through physical experiences and relief from tension. You will receive one massage and one acupuncture session each week, included in the cost of your treatment. Our meditative drumming group can help you feel centered through creative physical activity, creating a feeling of grounding and presence in the current moment. Yoga and physical fitness groups can further help you direct energy in healthy ways that enhance your life and encourage positive relationships with your body. You may also find our art therapy group useful for exploring issues using creativity within a guided, supportive environment.
