Abuse
Sexual Abuse
Many people have been victims of some form of Sexual Trauma. This could range from severe ritualistic abuse which may have occurred repeatedly over a span of time or a single episode of rape, date-rape or non-consensual sexual contact. These events are always devastating to the victims and if not properly dealt with through extensive treatment, within a safe and contained environment, may lead to continued psychological issues affecting all aspects of one's life. If left untreated, people may experience severe disruptions in the ability to maintain healthy relationships and often feel abandoned and mistreated by others. In many cases, sexual trauma victims may perpetrate against others and abuse others sexually, this is also known as reenactment.
Emotional Abuse
This form of abuse may not be as severe as Sexual Abuse but may cause similar symptoms and effects. This type of abuse may take on many different forms ranging from mild to severe and may include off-hand, devaluing comments from someone or a person who is rageful and threatening. This usually directly affects one's self-esteem and self-worth. Victims of Emotional Abuse usually find themselves in unhealthy relationships and are drawn toward entering into situations where they become shamed, disrespected and mistreated.
Physical Abuse
This is the most obvious form of abuse as it usually leaves visible wounds and scars on the victims. Many people receive some level of treatment when physical abuse occurs because of some type of legal or family intervention. Physical wounds usually heal; however, the emotional impact that this has on the victim can result in sustained devastation. These victims will often stay with their abusers because they hope that they will change and in some cases, may feel that they actually may have deserved being physically abused.
